I am a Registered Nurse with a PhD in Nursing from the University of Michigan, certification in Hypnotherapy, and training in Healing Touch. My years in conventional health care included critical care, home care, and hospice nursing. While I fully appreciate and value conventional Western medicine, my travels to China and Peru and the study of eastern and indigenous medicines, have opened my eyes to the value of healing approaches from around the world. This inspired me to intensively study mind-body-spirit medicine, energy medicine, and nutritional healing.

Founded by Shelley Van Riper, who currently serves as the director of the corporation, Integrative Life was established with the fundamental belief that a balanced life is achieved by integrating the concepts of healthy food, physical activity, personal growth and spirituality.

Integrative Life is based on the principles of health counseling instructed by Joshua Rosenthal, Founder of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) in New York. Integrative Nutrition is the only nutrition school incorporating myriad dietary theories—combining the knowledge of traditional philosophies with modern concepts like the USDA food pyramid, the glycemic index, the Zone, Atkins, Macrobiotics, and raw foods.

We believe in the treatment of fibromyalgia syndrome and chronic fatigue syndrome in a comprehensive manner. In this way we gently help with healing by approaching from several directions including, but not limited to, exercise, bodywork, sleep management, cognitive therapy, stress management, and diet
